Image -> Rotate

by Aaron Hockley on April 7, 2006

Random observation: Every time I take an image that isn’t perfectly level, and I mean every time, it needs counterclockwise rotation. Never clockwise.

It must be because I am right-leaning ;)

    Well, possibly, but it’s not a perfect correlation. I am not right-leaning, but all of my tilted pictures need a counterclockwise spin to (ahem) straighten them up. Blame the batteries.

    Maybe that explains the sticker in the back window of your pickup :-)

    Actually, for the non level shots, Aaron and David are “LEFT LEANING” when it comes time to press the shutter. I would say if these are hand held shots, you are inducing a slight CCW (left) camera rotation as you depress the shutter. Problem is magified with high power lenses. Interesting, because in my non level shots, I induce a CW camera rotation pressing the shutter with my right index finger which gives me images that are rotated CCW and corrected by rotating image CW. I personally would like to see a level incorporated in the viewfinder image. Cost may be an issue and not much value for people and scenery pictures. In the meatime, there is always post processing to correct image rotation and crop to eliminate the edge wedges.
