Last Saturday on the Huntington Sub

by Aaron Hockley on May 2, 2006

Last weekend I set out eastward with a couple friends for some railfanning in Eastern Oregon. After spending the night in La Grande at the Quail Run (anyone want to buy a motel?) we headed southeast on Saturday with the goal of exploring the section of the Huntington Sub between Pleasant Valley and the Snake River. It was a successful day of railfanning, although it was cut short by a nasty thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon which brought the railroad to a halt due to signal problems.

And now, a few photos from Saturday. I’ll let the other guys post some of the other shots on RailroadForums so you won’t get bored only seeing my angles ;)

Local approaching North Powder
In the spirit of the small trains discussion recently, local train LIC-71 approaches North Powder in the morning

Snaking towards the Snake
An eastbound train snakes through the canyon just east of “downtown” Huntington

Storm skies at Lime
The hottest train of the day comes through Lime with the skies a dark bluish-gray from the aforementioned storm

Sunday photos should be up within a few days…
