A Classy Surprise

by Aaron Hockley on April 14, 2008

Yesterday Vancouver had a surprise foreign visitor, KCS 4100 which I believe is the class unit of their SD70ACe series in the newer Heritage paint scheme. It was the trailing unit on a westbound train at 8th street (in some amazingly craptastical lighting… but you take what you can get, right?).

Walking to work today I watched a RailLink work train back through town headed by one of the newer streamlined cabooses and pushed from the rear by a battered old EMD. Maybe 10 hopper cars with a tie crane perched on top. The best part was that the caboose was whistling as the crossings, sounded like the whistle on the little tourist train I drive in the summer. Whomever was pulling on the cord didn’t know his/her whistle signals, it seemed to be more of a random event. Thought of you guys.
