Rough Weather
by Steve Eshom
I headed to the depot in Vancouver last night to capture a particular photo but the weather had other plans for me. The severe thunderstorm that developed over the Beacon Rock area remained severe as it moved west into the Portland/Vancouver area. About the time I wanted to set up for the planned photo the rain and lightning started in. While I didn’t end up getting the photo I’d planned but I did come away with something interesting.

Beautiful shot! Nice of Mother Nature to provide lightning for your time exposure.

Decided it was time to comment, after enjoying your blog for a couple of months. This is a great shot! I enjoyed the last post with the gorge photos also, plus the previous historical stuff. Keep up the great work!!

Excellent capture! One of the best shots I have ever seen at this location.

What a beautiful image. I have often found night photography difficult to do. However, you have master it quite well as demonstrated in this photograph. I enjoy the lighting on the rails, the highlights on th e bends; the bridge entrance draws one toward it. Of course, the lightning strike is quite important, but you have such a good composition here.
I have been following your blog for a short while. I live in Calgary. I haven’t started photographing trains yet, but I truly always have time for a train. The story on the CN SD40s was interesting only because I have seen this type of unit for so long i didn’t really know that they were rare.
Keep up the good work.

Great shot!! Now I have to come all the way out to Vancouver again to try to reduplicate that shot myself! Never considered going to the station at night, and my wife will miss me soooo much! She’ll have something nice to hang on the wall, though.
Well done!!
