Downtown

Sunday before following the activity at North Portland Jct., I found myself at the north end of Portland Union Station for the arrival of America’s Train, Amtrak’s Empire Builder. Since I moved to Vancouver in 1993 this location has grown up so to speak. Prior to this condo building it sat empty while the soils were scrubbed from its previous life as home to the Hoyt St. roundhouse.

  • This is a really great shot. As someone from Ohio, I don't get a chance to photograph Amtrak (at least in the daylight) and am very jealous of your opportunity.
  • Wow, I absolutely LOVE this shot. I know the building well. A few residents actually asked if the city (yeah, the city) would "relocate" the tracks so they wouldn't have to hear the noise. The City simply stated, "we don't own those tracks, you'll have to talk to BNSF". To which there was utter confusion from my understanding.

In addition, the building, albeit beautiful, wasn't built with the appropriate "train noise reduction" items that the other surrounding condos were. :) ...oh the negligent and uninformed home owner! :p

I am still amazed at how many people move next to tracks thinking that nothing extra or that nothing runs on the tracks. Only to find out at 5:00am or some hour that a train comes roaring through. People should really think about these things.

...anyway, I digress, absolutely stunning shot!
