Flying Low

I think one of the most interesting loads hauled on the railroad today is Boeing 737 fuselages.   Not only are they interesting but one of the oddest scenes you’ll ever see is one of these fuselages plunging into a tunnel!  As a passer by on the highway if you got just a glimpse of one as it passes through the trees you might not know what you were seeing.

Since 1983 737 fuselages, nose cones and tail cones have been manufactured in Wichita, Kansas and shipped by rail to Renton for final assembly.  Last weekend the V-CHCTAC carried 3 of these fuselages west over Stevens Pass and I was fortunate to photograph one of the hulls passing through the trees at Merritt.

    Definitely cool…

I’ve seen these come through Everett and always wanted to get a picture of them coming out of the Cascade Tunnel or coming over the raised tracks east of Everett, but am never in the right place at the right time. Great capture!
