Late last week and into the weekend I moved from the lush forests of the Oregon Cascades to the prairies and coulees of the Columbia plateau. On this trip I was with a great group of railfans enjoying the wide open spaces between Pasco and Cheney. Robert, Richard, Joel, and Dan were fabulous railfanning companions over the five days we spent chasing around the area.
There’s lots of stories to tell from this trip so like my visit to the Oregon Cascades earlier in the week I’ll work on posting items over the new few weeks. The highlights are:
- Fires
- Eastern Washington Gateway
- Columbia Basin Railway
- BNSF’s Lakeside sub
- Sun and more sun
This trip I ended up shooting around 750 images. I was shocked but we were blessed with mostly good train traffic so there was plenty to photograph. Also chasing a 10mph EWG train gives a photographer plenty of opportunities to fire off a few photos!
In this photo taken just a few days after the summer soltice the sun rises warm and well to the north in Lind, Wa. Being Sunday all is very quiet in town. The silence is only broken by a group of railfans looking for a photo and the horns on an eastbound empty grain train.
