Home From Montana

Westbound between Eddy and Woodlin MRL’s Paradise local prepares to work the Thompson River Lumber Company just a few miles ahead.

As I mentioned last week I traveled east to Montana with some friends for a railfan adventure.  We had a fabulous time filled with trains, stories, food, and laughs.  For me it was a great get a way which gave me some much needed relaxation and a break from the regular everyday grind.  This trip also gave me an opportunity to photograph some parts of the MRL which I normally don’t get much time to linger at.

Here’s a quick summary of our adventures:

Day 1 – MRL – Sandpoint to Lothrop (mostly a travel day and overnight at Alberton)
Day 2 – MRL – Lothrop to Paradise to DeSmet to Skyline; BNSF Garrison to Butte (overnight at Elliston)
Day 3 – MRL – Elliston to Lombard (overnight at Elliston)
Day 4 – MRL – Elliston to Reed Point (overnight at Livingston)
Day 5 – MRL – Bozeman to Big Timber (overnight at Livingston)
Day 6 – MRL – Livingston to Thee Forks; MRL – Three Forks to Pipestone; UP, BNSF – Silver Bow; EWG – Rocklyn to Medical Lake (overnight Cheney)
Day 7 – BNSF – Napa St. to Cheney; EWG – Medical Lake
Day 8 – BNSF – Lyons to Monroe  (mostly a travel day and overnight at home)

From a numbers perspective the trip put 3100 miles on the rental SUV and 1033 new photos into my catalog.  Fortunately there were 0 personal or gear injuries so we came out unscathed from that perspective.  In the upcoming weeks look for more images from the adventure on dogcaught and a few in my upcoming show at Autumn Leaf.
